Tip of the Month with Brad Kirkman
How long does it take to make a golf swing? How much time do you have in the downswing? How many swing thoughts can you have in that period of time? All the above are reasonable questions to consider when putting improvement in perspective.
The golf swing from beginning to ball contact is approximately 1 to 1.5 seconds, with some under that and most better players close to 1 second. The downswing is approximately 0.25 seconds. To experience how fast that is, use the stopwatch feature on your phone: start it and then stop it — see how long that takes you.
Which leads us to how many swing thoughts someone can have that is reasonable in that time frame — probably one or two. With an understanding of the time constraint and the complexity of the golf swing, you can understand why making changes can be difficult. My suggestion is, when making changes, begin by taking lots of practice motions at home. Have drills and training aids to help you. When hitting balls, swing in slow motion for some of the practice session. Take more practice swings than balls hit, and if you are practicing multiple things, break the practice into multiple pieces to work on one thing at a time.
The golf swing is a complex motion made in a small window of time. Change is not easy. Let us guide you through the process.
DJ Junior Golf Academy
DJ Jr. Golf Academy is teeing off with a rush of eager young golfers! For ages 5–13, our academy offers four sessions a month for just $150, plus a monthly tournament at TPC. Coach Sean is the mastermind behind a clever plan to turn little golfers into golf prodigies. The twist? Players aim for a score of 36 (par for 9 holes) by working backward from green to tee box! It’s a fun, exciting way to master the game and keep those competitive spirits high!
Best of Luck in Your New Chapter…
After spending the summer with us, it’s time for Intern Landon Olson, who joined us from Montana Tech, to take his next swing in life. It’s been a pleasure having you on our team. You’ve really helped us stay on course, and your positive attitude has been a hole in one. Wishing you nothing but birdies and eagles as you drive forth in your career!
DJ Golf School Junior Summer Camp
Our summer camps are the talk of the town, and this year was a real hole-in-one! With 107 campers braving the South Carolina sunshine, we ruled the greens like pros — move over, Tiger Woods! A massive shout-out to our amazing counselors for swinging into action, turning campers into mini golf enthusiasts faster than you can say “fore,” and spreading the love of golf!
PGA Junior League
Wow, what a whirlwind summer! The PGA Junior League has wrapped up, and we savored every thrilling moment. Huge thanks to the kiddos who zoned in during practices and gave it their all during matches. You should be beaming with pride over your dedication and effort! The All-Star team competed in Columbia on July 28th and showed improvement compared to last year.
